ABOUT KARA DIORIO

I’ve loved design for as long as I can remember. My initiation into interior design started at sixteen with a job selling textiles. Being surrounded by beautiful fabrics fostered a deep love for materials and the way they can transform space.

After college, my passion for textiles lead to a career as a soft furnishing designer and textile artist. Over the course of twenty years, I designed and produced soft furnishings and textile art for Sundance Institute, Sundance catalog, Utah Governor’s Mansion, Utah State Capitol, and leading showrooms across the U.S. My work was also commissioned by numerous private residences in the west, including Salt Lake City, Park City, Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

During those years, I worked closely with many talented interior designers and learned the elements of good design. Working in exquisite homes and visiting bespoke showrooms expanded my love and understanding of design. In the early 2000’s I was fortunate to be mentored by the principal designer of Elevation, a Salt Lake City interior design firm. From there I went on to do course work at Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

In 2005, I started DiOrio Design, a full-service design firm committed to creating interiors that endure. My goal is to create environments that are sophisticated, inviting and comfortable, and that embrace form and function in equal measure. To each project I bring a love for beauty and a meticulous eye for detail.

My work has been featured in Utah Style & Design, Metropolitan Home, Interior Design, Celebrated Living, My House, Utah Homes & Gardens, and SFDC magazine.
